The current issue of Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare included a summary of Texas Health Resources’ initiative that uses “Best Practice” alerts in its electronic health record (EHR) to help reduce the risk of getting blood clots during hospital stays. The initiative was recognized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the nation’s major health information technology association, as one of the organization’s “Stories of Success!” The article quoted Dr. Ferdinand Velasco, chief medical information officer.
