I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
In April, Texas Health Resources joined the Arlington Chamber Foundation, Health Industry Council and the North Texas Commission to convene a group of more than 220 local business leaders to start a discussion about local, state and national health care policy issues that impact the business community.
The North Texas Healthcare Forum was a rousing success, but it was only the beginning of a coordinated effort aimed at driving transformation of our nation’s health care system.
A large portion of our ongoing discussion centers on five key topics developed by the American Hospital Association and a coalition of consumer groups, health care providers, advocacy organizations, and business, labor and insurance organizations.
The topics include a focus on wellness; an emphasis on efficient, affordable care; the need for good information; a focus on quality of care; and the responsibility we all share to expand health coverage.
These points comprise the American Hospital Association’s framework for transforming health care, called “Health for Life: Better Health, Better Health Care.” Texas Health Resources and our community partners are using this framework to guide our discussions as we work toward meaningful solutions to our nation’s health care crisis. If you’d like to be a part of the discussion, visit TexasHealth.org and click on Community Commitment, then North Texas Healthcare Forum.
For our faith-based hospitals – Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist and Texas Health Arlington Memorial – I’m Doug Hawthorne.
