I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
In April, Texas Health Resources convened a group of local business and community leaders to work collaboratively towards health care reform.
Together, they have developed the North Texas Health Care Reform Policy Agenda, a proposal I believe all North Texans can agree upon. Today, I’d like to touch on two aspects of the policy agenda and invite you to join us in advocating for health care reform.
First, we should encourage use of the best information, in part by developing a comprehensive patient record and making it available to appropriate health care providers. Electronic health records, which are in the process of being implemented throughout Texas Health hospitals, promise faster, more efficient, safer service from your medical team. The next step is to promote the exchange of pertinent care information among all providers and institutions in North Texas.
Second, it is imperative that we support legislative and regulatory efforts to reduce the number of uninsured and underinsured. This is critical in Texas, where one in four people is without health insurance coverage and millions more are underinsured.

For Texas Health Resources and its faith based hospitals, Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist, and Texas Health Arlington Memorial, I’m Doug Hawthorne.
