HeartBeat 5K Race and Healthy Heart Fair|
Listen to this taped broadcast.
I'm Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with "The Business of Health Care Report."
I'd like to invite you to participate in this year's HeartBeat 5K and Healthy Heart Fair, which benefits the children and families of the Vickery Meadow neighborhood in north Dallas. The race is Saturday May 17 at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 8:30.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from this important community event are reinvested in the Vickery Meadow community.
Now in its 17th year, the HeartBeat 5K is hosted by Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation and the PHorum, one of the foundation's signature volunteer organizations. Over the years, the race has raised more than $610,000 for community outreach projects in Vickery Meadow.
Last year, proceeds from the race supported the opening of a community dental center that anticipates 9,000 patient visits annually. The clinic will provide approximately $2 million a year in low- to no-cost dental treatment for low- and moderate-income residents.
Other outreach projects supported by the race include after-school programs, health education, a youth and family service center, and a playground for children with disabilities at L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary School.
Early registration for the May 17 race is $18, and proceeds will help support construction of a youth facility to give children in the Vickery Meadows neighborhood a safe place to play. For more information about the HeartBeat 5K and Healthy Heart Fair, visit TexasHealth.org/HeartBeat5K.
