A Holiday 'Thank You' to Devoted North Texas Health Care Workers
12/21/2009

I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”

This holiday season, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the thousands of health care workers across North Texas who regularly give up holiday gatherings with family in order to care for others.

The delivery of health care never sleeps or takes a holiday; it is a 24-hour-a-day, 365-day a year responsibility. For physicians, nurses, patient care technicians, volunteers, and other health care workers, that means sacrificing some of their own holiday celebrations and giving of themselves to fulfill a very high calling: the health of others. I am so grateful for the devoted service of nearly 19,000 employees and 3,600 physicians on the medical staff of Texas Health hospitals.

Caregivers at the bedside are not the only people we rely on to ensure that the doors of our hospitals are open to the communities they serve, every hour of every day. Daily hospital operations require the dedication and hard work of chaplains, dieticians, food service workers, patient advocates, admissions personnel, security, groundskeepers, housekeepers, information systems staff, pharmacy technicians and more.

So on behalf of the communities we serve, thank you. Because of you, we are able to provide a very important service. I appreciate your hard work, commitment and passion for what you do. And I wish you joy as you celebrate this holiday season with those dearest to you.

For our faith-based family of hospitals — Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist and Texas Health Arlington Memorial — I’m Doug Hawthorne.
