Transforming Healthcare Delivery|

I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
In 2007, Texas Health Resources began a 10-year journey to transform how health care is delivered. Our goal: to make our healthcare system the benchmark by which other healthcare systems across the nation measure themselves.
Before we embarked on this journey, we mapped out specific, incremental goals along the pathway. We call them “Base Camps” along the path of Transformation Mountain. In its most basic form, Transformation Mountain is a metaphor for constant change, for remembering that we must keep the patient at the center of our universe and focus on providing quality care.
This year, we are celebrating our arrival at Base Camp 1 — our first checkpoint. So far during our trek, we have improved quality of care and established a single brand. We launched new models for physician engagement, and deployed the electronic health record well ahead of any other health system in North Texas.
As we continue the climb, we will focus on improving the delivery of quality, patient-safe care. We will play a significant role in defining what an Accountable Care Organization will look like and how it will deliver better outcomes and greater value through coordination of care. And we must adopt new models and designs of care delivery to be successful.
We remain committed to this transformational journey designed to better meet your healthcare needs today and tomorrow.
For Texas Health Resources and its faith-based family of hospitals, Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist, and Texas Health Arlington Memorial, I’m Doug Hawthorne.
