I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
I’ve talked with you many times about Texas Health’s goal of becoming an integrated provider and coordinator of care. We believe this is critical to improving quality of care, patient safety and outcomes. I’m proud to tell you that Texas Health has taken a giant leap toward that goal.
Texas Health recently signed an agreement by which MedicalEdge Healthcare Group, one of the largest physician organizations in North Texas, will become part of Texas Health Physicians Group. MedicalEdge has more than 280 physicians and more than 140 physician extenders, such as physician assistants. The majority of the physicians provide primary care.
This is the most significant step Texas Health has taken in our strategy to transform the delivery of health care in North Texas. We believe this combination will enable us to improve coordination of care, from prevention and wellness programs, to acute care, long term care and hospice care.
MedicalEdge has patient-access facilities in more than 250 locations in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Johnson, Parker and Tarrant counties. The physicians, physician assistants, nurses and staff will become members of Texas Health Physicians Group when the transaction closes in a few weeks.
Texas Health is also acquiring PhyServe, the management services organization that supports MedicalEdge physicians’ practices.
We are very excited to welcome the people of MedicalEdge and PhyServe to our family of caregivers.
For Texas Health Resources and its faith-based family of hospitals, Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist, and Texas Health Arlington Memorial, I’m Doug Hawthorne.
