How Will a Health Insurance Marketplace Impact my Business?|

One part of the Affordable Care Act requires a Health Insurance Marketplace in each state for small businesses and individuals to purchase affordable health insurance. Many employers and business owners are asking: How will a Health Insurance Marketplace impact my business?
Texas chose not to develop a state-run marketplace, so Texans will have a marketplace facilitated by the federal government. Whatever form the marketplace takes, helping Texans get coverage could have a positive impact on Texas businesses and communities.
Less than 49 percent of Texas private-sector businesses offer health benefits, compared to a national average of 56 percent. Less than a third of Texas businesses with fewer than 50 employees offer health insurance.
Hopefully, an effective marketplace will help small businesses improve the well-being and productivity of their employees by providing access to affordable care. And it could help large employers control health costs by reducing the burden of uncompensated care that is paid for indirectly.
Contrary to myth, 79 percent of the 5.7 million uninsured Texans are U.S. citizens.
It’s time to move from the political debate to a business discussion. Improving the health of working families could strengthen our economy and our communities.
