Diversity and Inclusion Strengthen our Businesses and Communities|

I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
Diversity and inclusion strengthen our businesses and our communities. Texas Health’s mission is to improve the health of all the people in the communities we serve.
Our Diversity Value Statement says, “We will maintain a fair and equitable environment for all by valuing and respecting individual differences for our enrichment and for the enrichment of the communities we serve.”
To emphasize how critical it is to our mission, the Diversity and Inclusion Department is near the top of our organizational structure, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of People & Culture.
Diversity in the workforce brings together the best parts of many cultural traditions and encourages each of us to be open to new ways of caring for our patients and our co-workers.
We emphasize providing culturally competent care and showing respect for cultural traditions and customs that are important for the patient and family.
We believe in “Inclusion.” Each person’s contribution is valued. At Texas Health, everyone has the opportunity to contribute to success and bring their distinctive skills, experiences and perspectives to their work.
Imbedding diversity and inclusion in every aspect of our organization is part of our strategy to reduce health care disparities in the communities that we serve.
For our faith-based health system — Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist and Texas Health Arlington Memorial — I’m Doug Hawthorne.
