Giving Back: Join the Heart Walks in North Texas|

I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
Heart disease is our number one health threat. Over 80 million Americans are afflicted with some form of cardiovascular disease. One in three will die from heart disease every year. But 80 percent of heart disease is preventable.
The simple fact is we’re not taking care of our heart health. Risk factors for cardiovascular disease continue to rise in large part due to obesity and lack of physical activity. Unless we do something to reverse the trends — or better yet prevent them — we’re in trouble.
That’s why Texas Health set a company goal to raise $450,000 for the Heart Walks in North Texas. The Heart Walks will take place Sept. 7 at Victory Park in Dallas and at the Fort Worth Stockyards. There will also be a Heart Walk in Denton County in October.
Hundreds of businesses across DFW have pledged to form teams of walkers to raise money for the Heart Association. There is still time to join us. If your organization is interested, please visit DallasHeartWalk.org or TarrantCountyHeartWalk.org and register your team.
I want to thank our honorary Heart Walk chairs — Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings — for the great work they have done. We hope you will join us on Sept. 7.
For our faith-based health system — Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist and Texas Health Arlington Memorial — I’m Doug Hawthorne.
