I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
Texas Health is the vanguard of improving well-being and implementing physician-directed population health initiatives. We are leading the way in advancing from the old world of episodic, fee-for-service health care to the new world of accountable care and a value-based model of health care.
We recently took another step on the path to become a nationally recognized leader in improving well-being, engaging physicians and coordinating care across the continuum of health care settings. In August, we announced plans for the Texas Health Population Health, Education and Innovation Center. Dr. Tricia Nguyen was appointed president of the center.
The center will serve as the nexus for sharing best practices and disseminating information about innovative approaches. Dr. Nguyen and her team will lead our physician-directed population health initiatives and coordinate community-based well-being collaborations, such as the Blue Zone Project with the city of Fort Worth.
The center will also promote patient-centered practices that emphasize caring for the whole individual — body, mind and spirit. It will lead efforts to expand our focus from acute care to prevention, well-being, managing chronic disease and post-acute care. The center will facilitate our ability to collaborate with those who are like-minded and want to work with us to achieve our mission.
For our faith-based health system — Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist and Texas Health Arlington Memorial — I’m Doug Hawthorne.
