I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
Just about a year ago on this program, I began encouraging people to do one simple healthy activity each day. Have you made that a habit yet? Here’s an easy way to develop that healthy habit.
Texas Health provides an online tool that helps people across North Texas do something each day to improve their health and well-being. The Daily Challenge has been an outstanding success!
Today, almost 6,000 people in the D-FW area have signed up for the Daily Challenge and a receive daily email reminder about the challenge of the day. People enthusiastically share their participation with their chosen circle of friends.
For example, one challenge was to do six repetitions of a simple core-muscle exercise that takes less than one minute. Another was even simpler — think about the best advice you ever got and apply it to a current situation.
Research has shown that such simple activities can have a measureable impact on improving a person’s overall well-being. People with higher well-being are healthier, happier and have lower healthcare costs.
Texas Health encourages you to take simple steps and take an active role in improving your own well-being. Visit TexasHealth.org/well-being to sign up for the Daily Challenge and to learn more about simple ways to improve your health and well being.
For our faith-based health system — Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist and Texas Health Arlington Memorial — I’m Doug Hawthorne.
