February is the month when many of us look for ways to express how much we care about others. This year, how about doing something that really matters and give your loved one the gift of a healthier you?
Sometime this month take the time to schedule an annual physical and keep the appointment. Get a cholesterol screening, blood work, blood pressure screening and an honest assessment of your weight. Don’t forget prostate exams for men and Pap smears and mammograms for women. Take advantage of other screenings as they are suggested by your physician.
Follow your doctor’s recommendations for diet and exercise and work to improve your health. Take time away from your busy schedule to relax, decompress and spend more time with family and friends.
If you find you need further treatment or are diagnosed with a disease, know that you’re doing everything you can to fight these ailments by seeking early detection. Early diagnosis can mean the difference between a treatable condition and an unmanageable disease.
Do what you can to live a long, healthy life and keep up with those annual screenings. It’s the best gift you can give yourself and anyone you love. Encourage your loved ones and your employees to do the same.
For Texas Health Resources and its faith-based hospitals – Harris Methodist, Presbyterian and Arlington Memorial – I’m Doug Hawthorne.
