Oncology Receives Outstanding Achievement Award Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons, one of the highest honors for cancer programs in the United States.
The Outstanding Achievement Award is the highest accreditation given by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Only eight hospitals in Texas have received this designation.
“It’s flattering for our program to receive an honor like this,” says Jivesh Sharma, M.D., oncologist on the medical staff at Texas Health Dallas. “It’s significant because it means we’re providing quality care and using evidence-based medicine with a team approach to meet the needs of each patient.”
This is the second consecutive time Texas Health Dallas has received the Outstanding Achievement Award.
“The award recognizes the hard work of everyone in our program,” says Pat Fulgham, M.D., surgical director of Oncology at Texas Health Dallas. “Receiving this designation a second time validates Texas Health Dallas’ commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care.”
To qualify as an approved cancer center, a hospital must see a certain number of cancer patients each year, provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services and participate in clinical research. The hospital also must provide a cancer registry that follows patients from diagnosis through treatment and offers lifelong follow-up care. Texas Health Dallas exceeded the criteria in all categories.
“We’re honored by the award because only institutions that meet the high standards set by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer receive this special recognition,”
says Matt Schneider, administrative director of Oncology at Texas Health Dallas. “We’re proud to be part of this select group.”
