A New Option for Surgical Care

In an effort to provide better coordination of services to Erath County and the surrounding communities, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville is excited to offer additional outpatient surgeries at the Texas Health Outpatient Surgery Center Stephenville.

Acquired at the beginning of the year, the Outpatient Surgery Center provides patients with
an additional option for receiving outpatient surgical services. Patients have a choice between Texas Health Stephenville or the Outpatient Surgery Center for added convenience.

“We are treating patients in the outpatient location as well as continuing to care for surgical patients within our hospital,” says Christopher Leu, president of Texas Health Stephenville.
“There are no major changes to the types of surgeries performed or excellent care provided at either location.”

The Outpatient Surgery Center integrates outpatient surgical procedures currently offered with those provided at Texas Health Stephenville. The multi-specialty facility operates as an extension of Texas Health Stephenville’s Outpatient Surgery Department and houses two operating rooms and a procedure room for gastrointestinal cases.

Surgical services include, but are not limited to:

• ear, nose and throat procedures (ear tube insertion, tonsillectomy and adenoid removal)

• general surgery (gallbladder removal, hernia repair and removal of cysts and skin cancers)

• gastrointestinal procedures (colonoscopies and endoscopic exams)

• gynecological surgeries (hysteroscopy, dilation and curettage, and ablation procedures)

• ophthalmology (cataract surgery)

• podiatry

Recent installation of upgraded computer technology throughout the Outpatient Surgery Center enables Texas Health Stephenville to allow providers seamless and secure access to patients’ electronic medical records at either location. Electronic medical records have helped improve patient safety by making a patient’s medical history readily available and up-to-date. This allows physicians and nurses to have instant access to records, physician orders, clinical assessments, test results and other services, resulting in more efficient care for patients.

“We strive to make each patient visit as pleasant and enjoyable as possible,” says Sheila Poston, R.N., supervisor of the Outpatient Surgery Center. “We have a wonderful staff, and patients walk away from what initially could be a very stressful time feeling confident in the care they received and feeling less anxious if they ever need to return.”
