Excellence in Hip Fracture Treatment

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth was recognized in spring 2010 as the fourth hospital in the country and the first in the state to receive the Gold Seal of Approval™ for the treatment of hip fractures in elderly patients.

As the baby boomer generation ages, Texas Health Fort Worth physicians and staff aim to meet the unique needs of this group through an award-winning hip fracture program. The designation from The Joint Commission signifies
the hospital’s commitment to utilizing optimal measures for improved patient outcomes.

The program, for those 60 and older who have suffered a hip fracture, pairs patients with a clinical nurse specialist
to develop a treatment plan that includes:

• Fall prevention education

• Medication reconciliation

• Nutrition consultation

• Pain management

• Physical therapy

Physicians utilize less invasive surgical techniques and specialized rehabilitative services to allow patients to begin
therapy within a day after surgery when possible. These practices aim to get patients back to their daily lifestyles
as quickly as possible using evidence-based guidelines and expertise in areas including:

• Case management

• Orthopedics

• Pharmacy

• Surgical recovery

• Trauma services

Through the collaboration of care among specialists, providers deliver individualized care supported by a track record of continually improving outcomes in patients, giving patients a chance to return to their regular activities more quickly.
