Dave Doucette, R.N., has been named one of the top nurses in Texas by the Dallas District of the Texas Nurses Association and is listed as one of the “Great 100 Nurses” for 2008.
Doucette, director of Critical Care at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen, received the honor after a panel of nurses throughout the state pored over hundreds of nomination letters.
The Canada native, who has been a Texas Health Resources employee for more than a decade, was nominated by Chief Nursing Officer Jane Cook.
Doucette earned his nursing diploma at Mohawk College in Ontario, and then arrived in
the United States with plans to gain experience in emergency medicine for a year before
returning to Canada.
Then he fell in love with the “over-the-top” friendliness of Texans and Texas Health Resources.
“Dave exemplifies the caliber of nurses we have here at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen,”
Cook says. “We always want to keep the ‘care’ in health care.”
Doucette has dedicated himself throughout the years to taking great care of his patients
because he simply loves what he does.
“I love my job because it provides the instant gratification of knowing I’ve alleviated
someone’s suffering,” Doucette says. “I know of no greater feeling than doing my best
to save someone’s life, essentially giving that person back—whole and healthy—to family
