Michael Deegan, M.D., Chief Clinical and Quality Officer

Michael J. Deegan, M.D., E.D.M., serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Clinical and Quality Officer for Texas Health Resources, leading the organization's quality care and patient safety initiatives and acting as the health care system's quality spokesperson.

Deegan has more than 35 years of experience in health care in a variety of settings, including clinical practice, health care administration and consulting. Before accepting the position of chief quality officer, he served as president of Synergy Health Care Consulting in Birmingham, Mich., a firm specializing in improving health care delivery in areas such as quality, performance improvement and patient safety.

He has served in a number of physician leadership positions, including regional chief medical officer in the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Mich., and as senior vice president for medical affairs at Providence Hospital and Medical Center in Southfield, Mich. He has held faculty positions in the schools of medicine at Emory University, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan.

Deegan received his medical degree from the University of Maryland where he began his residency training. He completed his residency in pathology at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C. He received his executive doctor of management degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. In addition to writing numerous published scientific papers, Deegan is a member of the American College of Physician Executives.
