Harris Methodist Erath County to Offer Digital Mammogram Special|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital soon will offer a screening mammography special on its new digital mammography unit.
From Oct. 27 to Oct. 31, Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital will require the $75 payment at the time of service and no insurance claims will be filed. The special will enable women without insurance, or with high deductible plans, to schedule their annual mammogram without worrying about the full cost of the test.
Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital has been offering its digital mammography service since September. Digital images make it easier to penetrate dense breast tissue and to create contrasts to better read the images. Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital employs the only registered mammography and breast sonography technologist in Stephenville.
“Every woman regardless of her insurance coverage should have access to screening mammograms, which are crucial to detecting breast cancer at its most easily treatable stage,” said Cheryl Hatton, director of radiology services. “We are proud to offer a special rate during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
The National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, and the American College of Radiology recommend women age 40 and older have annual mammograms. Women with dense breasts or under 50 years old are specifically encouraged to get a digital mammogram, according to breastcancer.org.
A physician’s order is necessary to schedule a mammogram. Often, the hospital can schedule mammography appointments within 48 hours. For an appointment, please call 254-965-1236.
