Texas Health Stephenville to host Book Fair, Blood Drive on April 7|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The weather is warming up, and what better way to spend a lazy afternoon than curled up outside with a book? Or how about taking a few minutes out of a pretty day to help save a life?
On Tuesday, April 7, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville will host a blood drive and a book and gift fair.
The blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the helipad parking lot across from Texas Health Stephenville. The blood drive will be held with the support of Carter BloodCare.
Why donate? Someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, according to the American Red Cross, but only five percent of the eligible U.S. population gives blood each year. Blood is needed for emergencies, people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell anemia and other diseases, according to the Red Cross.
Anyone in the community who is 17 or older, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health is welcome to donate blood. Donors must bring photo identification to participate.
The book and gift fair hosted by the Auxiliary will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Belknap lobby of Texas Health Stephenville. A range of materials — from children’s books to publications for adults — will be available.
“Books can transport children and even adults to new worlds and help them learn about different cultures or try new things,” said Mike Hannah, director of pastoral care at Texas Health Stephenville. “We are thrilled that our hardworking volunteers and members of the Auxiliary at Texas Health Stephenville provide this opportunity several times a year.”
A percentage of the proceeds from the book fair will be given to the Auxiliary to fund ongoing projects. The Auxiliary raises money to complete projects such as waiting room renovations and other improvement efforts for the hospital.
