HMHEB Chaplains to Conduct Blessing of the Hands|
BEDFORD, Texas – Physicians, nurses, other hospital employees, and volunteers have a sacred role in caring for patients and the community. To honor them and give thanks for their special work, the chaplains at Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital will be anointing the hands of caregivers, employees and volunteers with oil and praying a special blessing over them on Thursday, June 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the chapel off the main hospital lobby.
“The work everyone does here at the hospital to care for the health of the community we serve is sacred and appreciated,” said Randy Riddile, D.Min., director of pastoral care at Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital. “All of our physicians, employees and volunteers either take care of patients or care for those who do. Whatever you do here, the work of your hands is sacred.”
This is the second year Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital has conducted a Blessing of the Hands. The hospital typically holds the ceremony around the time of Pentecost, which in the Christian tradition is a time for commissioning people for roles of service within the church. The Blessing of the Hands ceremony is part of Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital’s dedication to treating the whole person—body, mind and spirit. It is an opportunity to acknowledge and bless the work caregivers do.
