HMHEB Receives Five-Star Hospital Award

BEDFORD, Texas – Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital received the 2004 Five-Star Hospital Award from the Bureau of Vital Statistics at the Texas Department of State Health Services. It is one of only two hospitals in Tarrant County to receive the honor.

The award recognizes hospitals and birthing centers for excellence in registering birth certificates with the state. To earn the award, birth registrations must be timely, with accurate and complete data and an above average level of paternity acknowledgements. Staff responsible for vital statistics must also attend an annual or regional conference of the Bureau of Vital Statistics, as well as Texas Electronic Registrar/Acknowledgement of Paternity training.

“This award is a very difficult award to win because each year the state raises the bar of excellence. Thanks to the hard work of all the staff, achieving this award became a reality,” said Fran Gray, director of Health Information Services (HIS) at the hospital. “Winning this award is truly a representation of teamwork.”

“I am very proud of our staff who worked diligently to accomplish this, including Health Information Services, the Siratt Women’s Center, Admissions, Social Services, department managers and the physicians on the medical staff,” said HIS manager Becky Kulasevig, RHIA, CMT. “Julie Choate, our key representative in the birth certificate process, has strived to achieve this goal for over a year and encouraged us all in the right direction.”

Award recipients will be honored at the Vital Statistics Annual Conference Banquet in Austin Dec. 6.
