Texas Health Azle Achieves Level IV Trauma Center Status|
AZLE, Texas — The Texas Department of State Health Services recently designated Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle as a Level IV Trauma Center. Currently, it is the only trauma-designated facility in Northwest Tarrant County. The designation is reviewed every three years.
To earn the designation, the hospital must have the necessary equipment and resources for trauma cases. Hospital officials review trauma cases every week, giving them the opportunity to deliver care based on best practices of trauma centers across the country. In addition, the hospital staffs radiology and surgery on a 24 hour basis to immediately treat trauma patients.
“Our hospital is a vital resource to the community when every second matters,” said Shawn Davis, M.D., medical director of emergency services. “In an emergency situation we want to be the first place that our patients think of for the best care.”
Texas Health Azle, part of Texas Health Resources, is one of the busiest hospitals in Northwest Tarrant County and operates a seven-bed emergency department that sees an average of 60 patients each day.
“This designation signifies our ability to treat very sick patients,” Davis said. “We want our patients to know that we have the capabilities in Azle and relationships with other acute care hospitals if a higher level of care is necessary.”
The trauma designation is important not only for individuals in an emergency situation, but also as recruiting tool for businesses and as a sign of dedication to the community.
“The Level IV trauma designation is one more way to emphasize to the community that we are committed to providing more comprehensive health care,” said Winjie Tang Miao, president of Texas Health Azle. “Our staff works tirelessly to deliver compassionate care and is thoroughly invested in being the full-service facility that businesses in Azle and the surrounding area have come to rely on.”
