HMSW Celebrates 20th Anniversary with First Baby Born at Hospital
10/29/2007

FORT WORTH, Texas – Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital (HMSW) welcomes back Cameron Janine Gulley, the first baby born at Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital 20 years ago.

Gulley will attend the celebrations at HMSW on October 30, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. as a guest of honor.

"Honestly, it is an honor to be the first baby born,” Gulley said. “Not many kids had the privileges that I did. I feel really blessed and I am so thankful for the support that Harris Methodist Southwest has given me over the years."

It is only natural that Gulley is currently studying to be a nurse at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, after having such a historical birth.

"I have known since I was very young that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field,” said Gulley. “After having the unexpected opportunity of seeing the birth of my niece, I realized how much I wanted to become a neonatal nurse. However, I would also love to spend time in the surgical, emergency room and labor and delivery units at some point in my nursing career as well."

Gulley expects to graduate in May of 2010 with a bachelor's of science in nursing. After gaining some experience as an R.N., she plans to enroll in the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program at Baylor University.

When asked about her plans for the next 20 years, she replied, “My hopes and dreams include surviving nursing school, marrying the love of my life and having children someday. I want to be the best person I can be and live a happy and successful life.”

We will follow up with her in 20 years with the hope that she accomplished her goals.
