“Our employees are the backbone of the services we provide to our patients and their families,” said Blake Kretz, FACHE, hospital president. “We value employees like Roger and Jennifer and depend on volunteers like Lavern to help us accomplish our mission of improving the health of the people in the communities we serve.”
Roger Scott, R.N., received the Patient Safety Star Award. Scott, a nursing supervisor in the emergency department, worked with emergency department employees to create a process to quickly move patients from the lobby back to a room to be seen by a physician. This helps hospital employees and physicians on the medical staff to better monitor the patients and helps patients be treated more quickly.
Jennifer Mathis, R.N., received the Living the Mission Award. Mathis, who works in outpatient services, is quick to support other caregivers as well as patients and their families. Mathis has been instrumental with internal process improvement projects and helps mentor new nurses. In her spare time she volunteers at health fairs and shelters along with feeding the homeless. She also spends time as a clown to bring a smile to others both in and out of costume.
Lavern Collins received the Helping Hands Award. Collins has volunteered at Texas Health Cleburne for the past five years. She helps wherever is needed and for the last few years has organized volunteer sales, which provide funds for hospital programs and scholarships.
