Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital Surpasses Mammography Inspection Criteria|
CLEBURNE, Texas – Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital’s mammography service recently was reaccredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
“HMWR received high scores from the Texas Department of State Health Services during its annual inspection,” said hospital president Blake Kretz. “We continually improve our policies and procedures to best serve our patients. The mammography department diligently works to provide physicians and patients the most complete and timely reports possible.”
The Texas Department of State Health Services completes annual inspections of mammography facilities as required by the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992. The standards law was designed to ensure that radiology facilities meet stringent quality criteria.
The review lasted an entire business day and involved checking all of Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital’s policies and procedures, said Lee Lennington III, director of radiology at HMWR. Inspectors also tested the mammography machines to verify the machines were running properly.
Lennington said that the hospital continues to invest in new technology and implement procedures to improve communications with patients, such as sending some results by registered letter. And that paid off with an excellent review report, Lennington said.
Hospital officials plan to install a digital mammography machine in the first quarter of 2009. The technology will enable the hospital to better read the images and bring in consultations when necessary.
