Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital Cosponsors Juneteenth Women’s Forum 06/01/2004
CLEBURNE, Texas – On Wednesday, June 16th, the East Cleburne Community Center and the friends of Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital will sponsor a women's forum in celebration of Juneteenth, the June 19th observance which celebrates the independence of slaves in Texas. The forum will be held at the East Cleburne Community Center and will begin at 10 a.m.
The main program consists of a fashion show and a free light luncheon which will begin at 11:45 a.m. with keynote speaker Rhonda Stevens of Texas Health Resources. Stevens will present a personal look at the abundant health information available in our environment. With that information, she says, one can choose whether or not to heed the warnings provided. “After hearing my story, every single person may not do things differently,” Stevens said, “but if just one person benefits, it will be worth it.”
Participants will have an opportunity to get their body mass index (BMI) calculated, blood pressure checked and a chance to spend time in a fragrant hand spa with candles and soothing music. Informational sessions will encourage participants to lead healthier lives, covering concerns such as breast cancer, nutrition, cholesterol and high blood pressure.
No-cost appointments can be made with the mobile mammogram unit for residents of Johnson County that do not have health insurance or meet other qualifications. Interested women can call 817-556-4257 to set up an appointment or to see if they qualify. Dollar tickets for cholesterol testing at the forum can be purchased.
