Harris Methodist Walls Regional Emergency Director Takes Working Vacations 12/09/2008
CLEBURNE, Texas — When Kristin Hires isn’t running the emergency department at
Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital, soon to be Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital
Cleburne, she often can be found on a cruise ship.

Kristin Hires has been to Alaska, the Panama
Canal, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Finland, Russia, and most of the Caribbean islands on her
working cruises.

For the past nine years, Hires, B.S.N., M.Ed., EMT-LP, has volunteered as a nurse for
Holland American Cruise Line. Every three days, she gets to take an entire day off. Her
husband and four grown children tag along for the trip.
“It’s fun and you don’t work too hard,” Hires said.
Hires recently returned from a cruise to the southern Caribbean Sea. Other trips have taken
her to Alaska, the Panama Canal, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Finland, Russia, and most of the
Caribbean islands.
Hires, who is no stranger to Texas, started at Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital this
fall. She and her husband wanted to return to Texas to be near friends after living in
Rutherfordton, N.C., for five years.
Hires brings a paramedic background as well as years of management experience in an
intensive care unit and other inpatient services as well as director of emergency services.
“I always like working in the emergency care area due to the challenges of dealing
with all ages of patients and types of medical problems,” Hires said.
She has been impressed with the employees and physicians on the medical staff at Harris
Methodist Walls Regional Hospital. “It’s a good group and we do very good care
here.”
Hires manages an 17-bed emergency department with about 35 employees. She also has
responsibility for the hospital nursing supervisor staff.
“Kris already is doing great things for the emergency department and Harris Methodist
Walls Regional Hospital,” said Blake Kretz, hospital
president. “We’re excited to have someone of Kris’s experience to help us
better meet the needs of patients in Cleburne and the surrounding areas. For many people,
the emergency room is the entrance to the hospital, and Kris sets a great standard for our
emergency room care.”
