Texas Health Allen Earns Top Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group|
ALLEN, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen earned an “A” grade for patient safety, according to the latest Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. The organization, a national watchdog on the quality and safety of hospital care, used publicly available quality and safety measures, as well as leadership commitment to creating a safe environment for patients, to come up with the letter grade.
Nationally, only about a third of the 2,539 hospitals scored were ranked “A.” Eleven Texas Health Resources hospitals received the top grade, including Texas Health Allen.
“Our Leapfrog score reflects the strong commitment to patient safety that is integral to our culture at Texas Health Allen,” said Dr. Robert Schwab, chief medical officer at Texas Health Allen. “An achievement like this can only happen through strong, focused teamwork by the doctors, nurses, staff, and administration. We are proud to receive this recognition.”
“As Texas Health carries out our mission of improving the health of the people in the communities we serve, we place a high emphasis on the quality and safety of the care we deliver,” said Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer and senior executive vice president for Texas Health. “This means being transparent and accountable for our quality and safety. We welcome public report cards such as the Leapfrog rankings."
Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
Individual hospital scores can be viewed at the Hospital Safety Score website, hospitalsafetyscore.org.
