Nuclear Medicine Department at Texas Health Allen Receives National Accreditation

ALLEN, Texas — The Nuclear Medicine department at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen recently received national accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR), joining two other radiology departments already accredited at the hospital. These include Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

The American College of Radiology awards accreditation to facilities that demonstrate high-practice standards in all areas of operation including imaging and staffing. A peer-review evaluation is conducted by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists who report their findings to the College’s Committee on Accreditation. Programs are assessed on image quality, procedure evaluations, facility equipment, quality control procedures, quality assurance programs and personnel qualifications.

“Accreditation with the American College of Radiology is a voluntary process that Texas Health Allen has chosen to pursue throughout radiology in an effort to continually grow and strive for excellence,” said Tom Bousquet, director of radiology at Texas Health Allen. “The accreditation raises the bar on quality and patient safety, resulting in both adults and children receiving quality scans with the lowest amount of radiation.”

In addition to attaining accreditation, Texas Health Allen’s radiology department recently implemented 24-hour ultrasound service, meaning that sonogram technologists are on hospital premises around the clock, rather than providing service on an on-call basis after hours. Later this month, the department will begin offering sedation services for MRI patients, administered upon patient or physician request.

"This important accreditation is another milestone in Texas Health Allen’s pursuit of quality care and high safety standards for our patients,” said Sheila McKinney, president of Texas Health Allen. “We are very proud of the hard work and dedication of our employees and the physicians on our medical staff, as it took a collaborative effort to achieve this significant accomplishment.”
