DALLAS — The following health seminars at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas are part of Advances in Medicine, an ongoing initiative to inform local residents about the latest treatments for common health problems and raise awareness about current medical issues. Healthy Bones: The Score Matters. What's Yours?
Join Dr. Arlene Betancourt, an internist on the medical staff at Texas Heath Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, as she discusses the most recent guidelines for diagnosing and treating osteoporosis. The lecture is part of a collaboration between Texas Health and the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health to empower women in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to take control of their health.

Betancourt will discuss whether medication is needed for early signs of osteoporosis and the long term effects of osteoporosis medications. She’ll also talk about prevention, how much calcium is too much, whether Vitamin D is helpful, and what types of exercise are the most beneficial for your bones. The lecture will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., May 29, 2012, in the Beasley Conference Center at Texas Health Dallas. The event is free and includes a light meal.

Asthma is a chronic, lifelong disease that affects the health and well-being of thousands of North Texans. Join Dr. Gary Weinstein, medical director of the asthma management program at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and physician on the hospital’s medical staff, as he talks about the latest in asthma treatments and a new ground-breaking therapy for severe asthma. The lecture will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., May 30, 2012, in the Beasley Conference Center at Texas Health Dallas. The event is free and includes a light meal.
