DALLAS — Two physicians on the medical staff at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas have been honored with major endowment gifts from the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation.

The Smith Foundation donated $250,000 to the Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation in honor of Dr. Archana Ganaraj, an oncology breast surgeon on the Texas Health Dallas medical staff, and Dr. John Harper, a cardiologist and inpatient director of Cardiovascular Services at Texas Health Dallas.

“Both Dr. Harper and Dr. Ganaraj are legendary at Texas Health Dallas for their clinical expertise,” said Jay McAuley, president of the Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation. “This award speaks to that but also to the compassionate way they care for their patients.”

The Smith Foundation gift was given through the Texas Health Foundation’s Grateful Hearts - Honor Your Caregiver program.

The $125,000 gift in honor of Harper will be used to support an Internal Medicine Graduate Medical Education Guest Lecture Series, which will bring medical experts specializing in cardiology to Texas Health Dallas.

The $125,000 gift in honor of Ganaraj will help support high-risk breast cancer research at the hospital. Ganaraj and her team will use the funds to support their ongoing research and gather and analyze data on high-risk breast cancer. The Texas Health Dallas high-risk breast cancer assessment is the only large-scale, high-risk study in the U.S. In just under a year, the high-risk team has gathered data for analysis from more than 6,000 women.

Both of these generous gifts from the Smith Foundation qualify for Texas Health Resources’ dollar-for-dollar matching program for endowment gifts made toward research and education, increasing the total value of these grateful patient tributes to $500,000.

The Grateful Hearts - Honor Your Caregiver program is supported by Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation, Texas Health Harris Methodist Foundation and the Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital Office of Development. It gives grateful patients an opportunity to take their “thank you” one step farther by giving back to the hospital to support vital programs and services.
