Texas Health Kaufman Earns Top Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group
10/28/2013

KAUFMAN, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman earned an “A” grade for patient safety, according to the latest Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. The organization, a national watchdog on the quality and safety of hospital care, used publicly available quality and safety measures, as well as leadership commitment to creating a safe environment for patients, to come up with the letter grade.

Nationally, only about a third of the 2,539 hospitals scored were ranked “A.” Eleven Texas Health Resources hospitals received the top grade, including Texas Health Kaufman.

“This accomplishment is the result of our continued commitment to provide patients with a safe environment and quality care,” said Patsy Youngs, R.N., FACHE, president of Texas Health Kaufman. “Our team works hard each day to make a difference in the lives of our patients and I am so proud of their dedication to our quality and safety initiatives.”

“In a short period of time we raised our score from a B to an A and that’s a reflection of the efforts put forth by everyone at Texas Health Kaufman to enhance our quality of care,” said Dr. Mark Sij, D.O., chief medical officer of Texas Health Kaufman. “Each enhancement made is a benefit to our community.”

Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.

Individual hospital scores can be viewed at the Hospital Safety Score website, hospitalsafetyscore.org.
