Texas Health Kaufman Recognized as Top Performer by Joint Commission|
KAUFMAN, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman has been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by the country’s top accrediting agency for hospitals.
The hospital was recognized for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes for pneumonia, surgical care and stroke. The rating was based on quality data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.
“With Bette Akpan’s leadership from our Quality and Patient Safety department, our care team works 365 days a year to continually improve the quality of care we provide our patients,” said Denise Claussen, chief nursing officer at Texas Health Kaufman. “This recognition is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”
In addition to Texas Health Kaufman, Texas Health hospitals in Azle, Bedford, Arlington and Rockwall were recognized by The Joint Commission.
To be considered a Top Performer, a hospital must score at least 95 percent in each accountability measure that it reports to The Joint Commission and for the specific measures outlined in this program. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice. Examples include giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients or giving antibiotics one hour before surgery.
“This is truly a reflection of the commitment our nurses, clinicians, technologists and doctors on the medical staff have to improving the health of the people in our community,” said Dr. Mark Sij, chief medical officer for Texas Health Kaufman.
This year, 1,099 hospitals are being recognized, representing the top 33 percent of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting performance data for 2012.
The Texas Health hospitals are recognized in The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report and on accreditation organization’s Quality Check website, qualitycheck.org.
