“We are excited to have another primary care option for residents of Kaufman and the surrounding communities,” said Patsy Youngs, Texas Health Kaufman president.
Medicine Associates of Crandall will stagger its hours throughout the week to be more convenient to patients’ various work schedules. The practice will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Every first and third Saturday of the month, the practice will open from 8 a.m. to noon.
“I hope to give patients a source of medical care close to home with hours that fit their needs,” Bowers said. “We’re trying to be a community oriented medical practice that accommodates people’s work schedules and finances and give them an easier way to access medical care around their daily lives.”
Bowers, who lives in Combine, continues to work part time for the federal government on disability quality assurance and for the University of Texas Medical Branch as a district medical director in correctional medicine for prisoners. But the travel throughout Texas became excessive, so Bowers decided to trim back his commitments and open a practice two miles from his home.
In addition to being a board-certified internal medicine physician, Bowers also has a master’s in business administration from Dallas Baptist University and a juris doctorate from Texas Wesleyan University.
Physician assistant Lisa Wimberley said it’s been exciting for her to be involved in creating a practice from scratch.
“It’s definitely been an educational experience,” she said. “It’s been wonderful.”
Wimberley will be in the office full-time, while Bowers will work about 20 hours per week. The practice does not provide obstetrical care, major surgery, or care for children younger than 12.
Medicine Associates of Crandall is located at 1101 E. U.S. Highway 175, Suite 700. The office’s phone number is 972-427-6555.
