10/04/2011

PLANO, Texas — For Christine Russe, R.N., M.S.N., education and emergency preparedness are more a calling than a job.

And the Emergency Nurse’s Association has noticed. The organization recently awarded Russe the 2011 Nursing Education Award, a national honor.

“Receiving this award is humbling and a privilege that will continue to inspire me to spread my enthusiasm, passion and love of emergency nursing and education with others,” said Russe, who is a certified emergency nurse and a certified pediatric emergency nurse. “I am blessed to get to live my passion each day as a nurse.”

Russe said that she’s always wanted to be a nurse and knew the emergency department was the place for her as early as the seventh grade.

“I knew in my heart that emergency nursing was where I needed to be,” she said. “I love working with nurses, so they can grow and develop. I take great pleasure watching the light bulb go off in someone’s mind, allowing nurses to take their practice to the next level.”

In addition to teaching employees at Texas Health Plano, Russe also teaches classes for other Texas Health hospitals across North Texas. Also, she is currently the president of the Dallas County Emergency Nurses Association.

“We are proud of Christine not only for the recognition, but of the work she does in our hospital each day,” said Dr. Jeffrey Canose, FACHE, hospital president. “Christine is an integral part of our facility because of her efforts to improve the health of the community we serve by providing the latest in education and practices to our employees.”
