The women's services department features a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) which opened in 2008, providing advanced care close to home for area residents. The eight-bed unit features around-the-clock care by nurse practitioners and access to minor surgeries, among other services.
The NICU offers care for babies born at 28 weeks gestation or more. The unit provides conventional mechanical ventilation equipment, as well as technology to help newborns breathe on their own.
Dedicated to Providing Support to Families
Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth realizes that having a baby in the NICU can be a frightening and stressful experience. That's why the caregivers in NICU are dedicated to providing sensitive support and information that families need when their newborn is hospitalized.
To help parents feel comfortable with the transition home, the NICU provides a room where parents can spend the night with their infant before taking him or her home. This gives parents the chance to experience caring for their child on their own, with the security of caregivers close by.
