As a patient, you play a critical role in the long-term success of surgery. You will need to:
-
Commit to improving your health.
-
Discuss your health history with your surgeon and bariatric team.
-
Attend all pre-operative appointments (three to six months, depending on insurance) and commit to scheduled post-operative follow-up.
-
Learn all you can about the surgery before making a decision. Discuss any questions or concerns you have with your surgeon/bariatric team.
-
Follow all instructions described in the Weight Loss Surgery Guide on nutrition, activity, and other care after surgery.
-
You must commit to honesty, personal responsibility and cooperation to be successful. If you are not ready for this commitment, you are not obligated to proceed with surgery and can pursue alternative treatment for weight loss.
