Conferences

Core Curriculum Lecture Series
The series is held at noon every Monday and Thursday. Faculty from each subspecialty of internal medicine present lectures covering pathophysiology and basic science. This series also includes lectures on neurology, psychiatry, orthopedics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, emergency medicine, dermatology, humanities and a variety of other topics.

Grand Rounds
Internal Medicine Grand Rounds is held at 7:30 a.m. every Wednesday. An interesting, and at times esoteric, case is presented by a faculty member in order to demonstrate the clinical as well as basic science principles that were used in the diagnosis and management of the case.

Clinical Update
This conference is held at 12:15 p.m. every Wednesday. Nationally recognized experts and our faculty are invited to present the latest updates in their field of specialty. Each month a different specialty of medicine is highlighted.

Clinical Pathological Conference (CPC) 
CPC is held at noon one Friday a month. A challenging case is discussed by a faculty member, followed by a presentation of the pathology and final diagnosis by a pathologist. Residents are expected to read the case in advance and offer a diagnosis or differential diagnosis.

Potpourri
Potpourri is held at noon one Friday a month. Residents present two or three of the most interesting patients seen in the last month. The presenting resident, faculty or program directors emphasize teaching points.

Morbidity and Mortality
Morbidity and Mortality conference is held one Friday a month. Residents present cases from the previous month of patients that expired or had unexpected complications. Teaching points are emphasized by the presenting resident, faculty, or program directors.

Morning Report
Dr. Feldman, the chair of medicine, conducts morning report at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. Cases admitted the night before are presented. Diagnosis and case management are discussed. The conference is attended by upper level residents on the wards service.

Journal Club
A Journal Club is held twice a month at noon on Tuesdays. Residents and faculty participate in the discussion of the medical literature, applying the concepts of evidence-based medicine and biostatistics to determine the validity of the study.

Intern Conference
Interns meet with Dr. Feldman at 11 a.m. each Tuesday to present and discuss cases from the prior week. Interns develop presentation skills and diagnostic abilities and gain an appreciation for the need to understand the pathophysiology of the disease state.

Coffee with Cardiology
Coffee with Cardiology is held at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. At this conference, the faculty members teache cardiac exam, diagnosis, management, echocardiography, interpretation and proficiency at electrocardiography.
