Texas Health Plano received the 2008 Texas Award for Performance Excellence (T.A.P.E.), the state's highest honor for quality and organizational performance. Texas Health Plano was the first health care facility in Collin County to receive the prestigious honor and the fourth in Texas. Two other organizations were also awarded the 2008 T.A.P.E.: Central Texas Workforce of Belton and St. David's Healthcare in Austin.
Patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria and process, the T.A.P.E. was established in 1994 as an annual recognition of Texas organizations that have achieved performance excellence and applied outstanding quality principles in their day-to-day operations.
The award is presented to manufacturers, service companies, education organizations, small businesses, health care organizations and public organizations that serve as role models for quality, customer satisfaction and performance excellence in the state of Texas.
Texas Health Plano was selected after a rigorous evaluation by an independent board of examiners in seven areas:
Customer and market focus
Measurement, analysis and knowledge management
Human resource focus
The evaluation process included individual review, team consensus and an on-site visit by teams of examiners to clarify questions and verify information in the applications.
Quality Texas Foundation, a non-profit Texas corporation that administers the Texas award, has presented 34 recipients with the T.A.P.E. since 1994.
In November 2007, Texas Health Plano received the Magnet designation for excellence in nursing, the nation's highest honor for nursing excellence, from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
