Texas Health Azle earns Cycle III Chest Pain Center Accreditation

AZLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle has earned Cycle III Chest Pain Centers accreditation — the highest accreditation possible for treatment of chest pain by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Tarrant County and across the United States. One person dies every minute nationwide from a coronary event, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

To patients, the designation means that Texas Health Azle has met stringent national standards for rapid recognition and collaborative treatment of heart attack. Nationally, accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers is linked to better patient outcomes and more lives saved, according to an Emory University School of Medicine study published in the American Journal of Cardiology in July 2008.

“When it comes to a heart attack every second that is lost kills heart muscle,” said Dr. Joseph Cordova, an emergency medicine physician on the medical staff at Texas Health Azle. “Patients who live in the Azle community can rest comfortably knowing that their community hospital has received national recognition for the way we care for patients with a heart attack."

Starting with the first call for help to 911, medical professionals across multiple disciplines snap to action: Paramedics immediately administer life-saving therapies, and physicians and nurses in the emergency room begin preparing for the patient before he or she reaches the hospital.

“Our hospital continues to be recognized nationally for our quality and patient outcomes," said Winjie Tang Miao, president of Texas Health Azle. "Earning Cycle III Chest Pain accreditation is further affirmation to Azle residents that they have access to leading-edge medical care right in their own community."

The Society of Chest Pain Centers is a non-profit international society dedicated to improving the quality and timeliness of care for with heart disease and heart failure. For more information, visit
