Greer Garson Gala

Gala History | Events | Tickets and Sponsorships | Recognition

For nearly two decades, Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation has hosted a signature fundraising event named after Greer Garson, the late Academy Award-winning actress and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas supporter.

2009 Greer Garson Gala

While glitz and glam have found a home at the annual Greer Garson Gala, it is the cause that really draws a crowd. Net proceeds from the Gala have benefited two important areas of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas: Parkinson's disease research and programs and women's and infant's services.

More than $1 million has been raised for these programs. In 2008, the event netted more than $280,000, the largest amount to date.

In 2009, event co-chairs Kara and Austin Adam and Jeannie and Nathan Denton aimed to raise at least $250,000 for Parkinson's research and programs and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Texas Health Dallas.

About the Cause

Parkinson's Disease Research and Programs
According to the National Parkinson Foundation, Parkinson's disease, a chronic and progressive disease that results when nerve cells of the brain die or are impaired, is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease. It is estimated that approximately 1.5 million Americans are currently living with the disease, 15 percent of which are under age 50. There is no cure.

Texas Health Dallas offers a broad range of services designed to help patients and their families function more effectively with the debilitating effects of Parkinson's disease. The Fogelson Center and Anne C. Slicker Early Detection Center are dedicated to providing education and support services to Parkinson's patients.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Each year, approximately 6,000 babies are born at Texas Health Dallas. In 2008, a new record was set, with nearly 6,200 babies born — the same year as the hospital celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Margot Perot Center for Women and Infants.

More than 700 of these young patients require the unique care offered by the allied health professionals on the medical staff and the nurses staffing the NICU each year. These tiny infants come from as far away as Oklahoma and Louisiana. Technically speaking, the NICU is a 47-bed Level III NICU; practically speaking, it can be the difference maker in the lives of these babies and their families.

The NICU is equipped to provide quality care for these infants. The physicians and allied health professionals on the medical staff and the nurses are trained and skilled care givers who are passionate about their work. They are committed to providing quality care to each of their tiny, precious patients.

Gala History

Greer Garson Fogelson
Greer Garson and her husband, Buddy Fogelson, supported the development of the The Fogelson Center. As a tribute to Garson's generosity, a bronze bust is in the center's lobby.

In the early 1990s, Greer Garson lent her name to host a special fundraising event to support Parkinson's disease research and programs at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.

Her husband, Col. E.E. "Buddy" Fogelson, passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease. Garson dedicated much of the remainder of her life toward raising awareness and money for Parkinson's disease at Texas Health Dallas.

Garson is best known for the film Mrs. Miniever, for which she earned an Academy Award for Best Actress. She was nominated for six Oscars during her career.

Since the event's inception, more than $1 million has been raised to support Parkinson's and women and infant programs at Texas Health Dallas.

The Gala is comprised of three events, including a kick-off party on April 16 at The Blues Jean Bar, Underwriters' Party, and the Gala itself on Oct. 10 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.

Tickets for the Greer Garson Gala are available by calling the Foundation at 214-345-8442. Single tickets are $175 and sponsorships begin at $500.

Sponsorship, ticket sales and auction donation forms are available here.
