Title   Clopidogrel Therapy Compared to Those Patients Not on Clopidogrel Therapy
Description   This study has shown that patients undergoing early hip fracture surgery who are taking oral anticoagulants, including Clopidogrel, warfarin (if controlled), or aspirin, are not at increased risk for perioperative bleeding, bleeding complications, or mortality up to one year.

Inclusion/Notes   INCLUSION:
  • Patients treated at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital.

  • Between January 1, 2005 and June 30, 2009.

  • = 60 years of age.

  • Treated for hip fractures by orthopedic surgeons.

  • Must have been treated with one of the following CPT. Codes:

    • A repair of femoral neck fracture with percuatneous skeletal fixation AKA “percuatneous screws,” (cpt 27235).

    • A repair with open treatment of the femoral neck fracture with internal fixation AKA “open reduction and internal fixation or ORIF” or partial hip replacement AKA “hemiarthroplasty,” (cpt 27236).

    • Repair of intertrochanteric, peritrochanteric, or subtrochanteric hip fracture with plates and screws (cpt 27244).

  • Patients treated at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospita:l i. Between January 1, 2005 and June 30, 2009.

    • = 60 years of age.

  • Treated for hip fractures by orthopedic surgeons.

  • Must have been treated with one of the following CPT Codes:

    • A repair of femoral neck fracture with percuatneous skeletal fixation AKA “percuatneous screws,” (cpt 27235).

    • A repair with open treatment of the femoral neck fracture with internal fixation AKA “open reduction and internal fixation or ORIF” or partial hip replacement AKA “hemiarthroplasty,” (cpt 27236).

    • repair of intertrochanteric, peritrochanteric, or subtrochanteric hip fracture with plates and screws (cpt 27244).

    • Repair of intertrochanteric, peritrochanteric, or subtrochanteric hip fracture with intramedullary implant AKA “intramedullary nail” (cpt 27245).

  • Must have one of the following ICD 9 codes: 820.0 – 820.

EXCLUSION:
  • All others will be excluded.
