Retrospective evaluation of intrawound vancomycin application in posterior degenerative and traumatic spine surgeries
This study will be very significant, and will lead to a greater understanding of the increasingly popular use of vancomycin powder for SSI prophylaxis in spine surgeries. Information gained from this study will allow for enhanced operative planning for the surgeon and improved outcomes for patients.
Must meet all criteria as outlined in 1 and 2 or 1 and 3:
1.Patients who had posterior spine surgeries for degenerative or traumatic spine pathologies (including deformity).
2.Documented use of vancomycin powder in the surgical wound (treatment group).
3.Without use of vancomycin powder in the surgical wound (control group).
Surgery for spinal pathology other than degenerative or traumatic spine pathologies, even with the use of vancomycin powder.
