Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)
A Safety and Efficacy Trial Evaluating the Use of Apixaban in the Treatment of Symptomatic Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism (Venous Thromboembolism - VTE)
This is a randomized study comparing Lovenox (an FDA approved drug) with Apixaban (an investigational drug) for patients recently diagnosed with a blood clot in their lower extremities or lung. This study is 6 months in length.
Men and women ages 18 years of age or older.
Clinical diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).
Patients who are pregnant.
Patients who have abnormal liver or kidney blood tests.
Patients who currently require long term anti-coagulation medications.
Patients who have a bleeding disorder or history of a recent bleeding abnormality.
