Palliative Care Unit To Open at Texas Health Fort Worth
 |
|
Jim and Colleen Stewart
|
Fort Worth's first and only Palliative Care Unit will open at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth on July 15 to patients and families facing delibitating pain and/or other complications common at the end stages of life.
This 16-bed unit is located on the second floor of the Harris Tower and will include a family conference room, chapel, family sitting, dining, shower areas and palliative care staff offices.
In June, a dedication was held at the unit for community members and employees who donated funds toward the $4.5 million project.
Among those supporters is Texas Health Harris Methodist Foundation Board of Trustee Jim Stewart and his wife, Colleen.
The unit's chapel will bear their names. Congresswoman Kay Granger toured the unit on June 30, and was recognized for her efforts to secure federal funding toward the project.

Foundation Staff Feed Homeless, Participate in Annual Food Drive
Recently, staff members of Texas Health Harris Methodist Foundation participated in Texas Health Resources Community Time Off program — volunteering at Union Gospel Mission during lunch to feed the homeless of Tarrant County.
Union Gospel Mission was also the Foundation's chosen beneficiary to receive donations collected by the staff as part of Texas Health's annual Food Drive, which collected the equivalent of 616,850 items.
Employees of Texas Health exceeded last year's collection, showing that in a year when times are tough and the need is the greatest, Texas Health and its employees are here for the community.

Healthy Bites
By Amy Goodson, M.S., R.D., C.S.S.D., L.D. Executive Health Program Registered Dietitian Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth
Did you know that breakfast jump starts your metabolism for the day and replaces vital carbohydrates used during the night? Thus, it is essential — the most important meal of the day.
Research shows those who eat a complete breakfast of high fiber carbohydrate, lean protein and healthy fat feel more satisfied and actually eat less throughout the day. So forget a "light breakfast" — eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. Check out some nutrient-rich breakfast options here:
- Mini Ezekiel bagel with 1 Tbs. natural peanut butter, 1 yogurt, 1 medium fruit
- 1 cup whole grain cereal with low-fat milk, 2 scrambled eggs, 1 fruit
- 1 cup cooked oatmeal with 1 Tbs. natural peanut butter, 1-2 percent string cheese
- 2 Kashi Honey Oat waffles with 1 Tbs. almond butter and cinnamon on each, 8 ounce low-fat milk
- 1 whole wheat English muffin with 1 egg, 2 percent slice cheese, 2 slices ham, 1 banana, 8 ounce low-fat milk

Texas Health Cleburne Nurse Named 'Rookie of the Year'
 |
|
LaDonna McKee
|
Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne is proud to announce that LaDonna McKee has been named "Rookie of the Year" by the Texas Nurses Association's (TNA) District III.
The award recognizes a new member of the nurses association — not necessarily someone new to the profession.
Among McKee's various accomplishments is her work to make Texas Health Cleburne the TNA's first remote meeting site. She recently was promoted to operating room supervisor, where volume has increased.
Her coworkers describe her as the "go-to" person in the operating room and she works with the most new employees showing them the ropes.

Texas Health Stephenville Retains Level IV Trauma Center Status
The Texas Department of State Health Services recently re-designated Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville as a Level IV Trauma Center. Texas Health Stephenville is the only trauma-designated facility in Erath County. The designation is reviewed every three years. Being a Level IV Trauma designated facility enables Texas Health Stephenville to treat seriously injured patients, stabilize them and then transport the patient to a trauma center that handles higher acuity cases if needed.
