Bone Densitometry Exams / DXA Scans

Protect your Bones from Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become weak and can break more easily.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become weak and can break more easily. About 10 million Americans already have the disease and about 34 million are at risk.

Breaking a bone is serious, especially when you’re older. Osteoporosis may even keep you from getting around easily and doing the things you enjoy.

You can’t feel your bones becoming weaker. You could have osteoporosis now or be at risk for it without realizing it. Fortunately, a bone densitometry exam or a DXA scan can tell if you have osteoporosis before you have any symptoms.

Some facts about osteoporosis:

  • Of the estimated 10 million Americans with osteoporosis, about 80 percent are women.
  • Approximately one in two women over age 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis.
  • Up to one in four men over age 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis.
  • Approximately two million American men already have osteoporosis.

The Kupferle Comprehensive Breast Center performs bone densitometry exams on qualified men and women. For our ladies’ convenience, you can request that your bone density exam be done on the same date as your screening mammogram.
