The comprehensive Spinal Deformity Center at Texas Health Dallas provides specialized treatment for scoliosis, spinal tumors and other spinal deformities. Experienced physicians on the medical staff, nurses and therapists combine innovative minimally invasive technologies and the vast resources of Texas Health Dallas to provide a comprehensive treatment plan, tailored to the patient’s individual needs.
Meeting the Patient’s Needs
From surgical procedures to correct severe spinal curvatures to spinal damage from traumatic injury, the Spinal Deformity Center is fully equipped to provide treatment for a broad range of conditions. No two spinal problems are exactly alike, so physicians on the medical staff are able to offer a full spectrum of options ranging from therapy and bracing to minimally invasive spine surgery using intraoperative navigation.
There are multiple treatment options available, and they depend on several factors such as the severity of the curve, age, overall health, medical history, and the patient’s tolerance for specific medications, procedures and therapies. All of this, plus the expected course of the disease, factor in to what therapies are appropriate. You'll be relieved to know the majority of scoliosis patients require no treatment, only observation and follow-up appointments.
While other options include physical therapy, chiropractic care, bracing, anti-inflammatory medications and even surgery, we believe in the least-invasive treatment possible. We also encourage all our patients to exercise regularly, maintain ideal weight and avoid smoking and a sedentary lifestyle.
Treatment depends on the cause of the scoliosis, the size and location of the curve and how much more growing the patient is expected to do. Most cases of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (less than 20 degrees) require no treatment, but should be checked often, about every six months.
The center also treats a variety of non-scoliosis spine conditions such as Kyphosis, Spondyloisthesis and post-traumatic conditions.
