Harris Methodist Walls Regional Recognizes Manager and Employee of the Year|
CLEBURNE, Texas – Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital recently announced the recipients of the Manager of Excellence and Employee of the Year Awards. Debbie Palmer, RN, CEN, risk manager and patient safety coordinator, was recognized as the Manager of Excellence and Linda Cook, housekeeper, was named Employee of the Year.
“Both Debbie and Linda are committed to helping others and have gone above and beyond their job descriptions to make patients and their families feel like a part of the Walls family,” said Blake Kretz, president of HMWR.
In 2007, Palmer developed a program to increase hand hygiene compliance scores. “I’m happy to report that we reached 100 percent compliance from our employees through fun programs designed to motivate them,” Palmer said.
Cook was recognized because of her willingness to help others, even if it means taking on another role.
“Linda saw an elderly gentleman juggling three great-granddaughters,” said Eddie Jones, director of support services at HMWR. “Poor guy was in his 80s and overwhelmed by them. The littlest one had a wet diaper and the gentleman didn’t have any diapers. Linda found one, helped him change her and stayed with him until his wife returned.”
Cook was surprised to be recognized for that act of kindness.
“I believe in treating others the way you want to be treated,” she said. “Respect them, look them in the eye, say hello and help them if they need it. Anyone would have done it.”
Palmer and Cook were recognized at a hospital event and were awarded a cash award, an obelisk and a parking space.
“We are proud to have such dedicated people on our staff,” said Kretz.
