New Contract Keeps Health Hospitals and Physicians In-Network for 1.3 Million North Texas Consumers

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and Texas Health Resources announced today that they have reached a multi-year agreement that will allow Texas Health facilities and employed physicians to remain in the BCBSTX network. The new contracts will provide more than 1.3 million Blue Cross members with access to in-network health care services at Texas Health’s 24 hospitals and 18 outpatient facilities in the North Texas area.

“This new contract with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas represents a key component in our ability to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve," said Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health. “Both parties recognize our shared responsibility to make sure North Texans have convenient access to quality care while also improving patient outcomes and reducing costs in the long run. We’ve worked hard over the past several months, and it has resulted in the right agreement for our patients. We look forward to continuing to have a positive contractual relationship with Blue Cross Blue Shield and to consumers being able to continue to use their trusted physicians and preferred hospitals. Working together, we can transform health care reimbursement through innovative payment arrangements such as pay-for-performance and shared savings which can lower costs and improve quality.”

“We are pleased to have finalized an agreement with Texas Health Resources,” says Darren Rodgers, president, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. “Our number 1 priority was improving the value our members receive for health care services by striking an agreement which focuses on pay for performance. The new agreement focuses both parties on improving the long-term affordability of health care services.”

Blue Cross members will have uninterrupted access to Texas Health hospitals and employed physicians. The new contract includes innovative provisions that incentivize quality improvements and other pay-for-performance elements to enhance alignment among hospitals, physicians, Blue Cross, employers and patients.
